Instrument Rating Checkride Practice Test 2026 – The Complete All-in-One Guide to Exam Success!

For part 91 operations, there are no specific takeoff minimums established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This regulatory framework means that pilots operating under part 91 are not required to adhere to set visibility minimums for taking off, allowing them to make their own determinations based on conditions, aircraft performance, and personal proficiency.

This flexibility is particularly important as it allows the pilot to use their judgment in assessing weather conditions, which can vary greatly. Pilots operating under part 91 must, however, still comply with any applicable procedures or restrictions issued by air traffic control or pertinent to the airport they are using.

In contrast, other regulatory parts, such as parts 121 and 135, do have explicit visibility and runway condition requirements that must be followed for takeoffs and landings, which is why those options do not apply here. Additionally, while some aircraft may have specific performance requirements, these are related more to the aircraft's capabilities than to regulatory visibility minimums.
